You sure you want to eat THAT?

Some of our favorite food contain freaky ingredients. Though some of them may sound icky, these additives make your food tastier or look better.


1. CARMINE

- also known as Crimson Lake, Cochineal, Natural Red 4. This red food coloring is obtained from the Carminic Acid produced by some scale insects such as the Cochineal and the Polish Cochineal. Carmine is usually used in the manufacturing of artificial flowers, paints, cosmetics and gives color to your strawberry yogurt and gives the appealing look to that cranberry drink.

2. CARAGEENAN -

- is a substance extracted from Red Seaweeds that is used as a thickening agent in foods such as icecream, pudding and other dairy products.

USES of Carageenan:
Desserts - ice cream, milkshakes, condensed milk
Beer - to clarify and remove haze causing proteins (interesting)
Air Freshener Gels
Toothpastes and Shampoos
Diet Sodas???
Soy Milk

Personal Lubricants

Carageenan is also said to be used as a sexual lubricant that block sexually transmitted viruses such as
HPV(Human Papillomavirus) and Herpes.

3. SHELLAC -

Skittles Candy Jelly Beans

- is an all natural resin secreted by a female Lac Bug to form a cocoon on trees in the forests of India and Thailand. It is used in making the shiny coating of jelly beans and give the glossy finish on fruits and vegetables.
