Denmark Dolphin Killing Festival

DENMARK: WHAT A SHAME, A SAD SCENE. THIS HAS TO BE CIRCULATED. THERE IS NO WORSE BEAST THAN MAN!!!!

While it may seem incredible, even today this custom continues, in Dantesque, - in the Faroe Islands, (Denmark ) . A country supposedly 'civilized' and an EU country at that. For many people this attack to life is unknown- a custom to 'show' entering adulthood. It is absolutely atrocious. No one does anything to prevent this barbarism being committed against the Calderon, an intelligent dolphin that is placid and approaches humans out of friendliness.

Make this atrocity known and hopefully stopped.

  1. If this was a Muslim country, the whole of the West would have declared WW3. Notice how the religion is not mentioned, whereas if it was a Middle East country the first word in the sentence would be 'Islamic ..........'.
Because these handful of illiterates are responsible for this barbarism, the rest of Europe is not stereotyped as Barbarians unlike in the Islamic world.
This barbaric festival will never be stopped, because its ok in the West, we are "civilised"!!

    1. religion is not mentioned because it's not a religious celebration.

      Delete
    2. I agree with Dave. With Islamic countries, irrespective of whether religion has something to do with their actions or not, their religion is very often dragged in and highlighted as one of the factors responsible for things that happened. However, I wouldn't wage a war of ideals on Europe. I think at the end of the day it boils down to the many individuals who are in influential positions today - as they, to a large extent, make and break their societies.

  2. Funny.. its supposed to be a sign of entering adulthood right? Lets see them try to take out as many sharks.. now THAT would actually prove something. Besides being a lot more difficult to do. Killing a bunch of dolphins and saying you've entered manhood is like killing a cow and saying you've been hunting. Ridiculous. I am NOT advocating killing sharks, just emphasizing that this custom is barbaric and does the exact opposite of what it claims to show. Shame on them.

  3. I am disgusted by this "tradition". These people are animals, sub-human even. How could any right thinking human being do such a thing? I will equate this to a gang initiation, killing another human in order to belong.

  4. Disgusting!! shame on Denmark.. how can someone kill a dolphin?? they are so nice and friendly to us, the human beings?

  5. This is a well know thing around the world, Denmark...has their traditions, but I believe I can't respect this one. I received a spanish email regardint this barberic initiation! The word is getting around!

  6. i dont think theres a word that could describe this, but this has to be spoken about... its atrocious... very saddening

  7. Very true that if it were in the Middle East it would be splashed around the news as an example of the backwardness of the region, and yes religion would most likely be mentioned. But I think it can be taken even further than that. It seems like Western Europe has the "ok" for these things whereas Eastern Europe is constantly being scrutinized for certain customs. For example I remember years back when Romania was making a bid to join the EU, the Union was making a big deal about the manner in which they slaughter pigs around Christmas (I forgot what this custom was called but a nice man in Romania showed me a video, it didn't look half as bad as this dolphin slaughter, and it was only 1 pig that was raised to be slaughtered anyway). It seems very lopsided that this dolphin festival goes unmentioned in Western Europe.

    ReplyDelete
  8. shame on Denmark!why the European union is so quiet about this?where is GREEN PEACE,who make so much noise in other countries....Thus happens only in uncivilized Denmark.THERE IS NO MORSE BEAST THAN MAN!

  9. Big nations cry of Environmental problems, greenhouse effect and pollution. They realise that trees are important coz it keeps them alive. But its a shame that very little has been realised about animal kingdom and the food chain that they maintain to keep the balanced nature. It goes the same way for sea mammals. Definitely this is an act of barbarism and uncivilzed behaviour but I am shunt as to how come no government or animal activists group has come forward to stop this act of animosity.
SHAME ON DENMARK AND ITS GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE who encourage such thing.

  10. There is no place for such killings of innocent animals. No greenpeace, RSPCA. I am sure the Japanesse must be aware of this, if not, I will write to thier embassy in the UK. Please get the word around of barbaric act by denmark animals.

  12. Hey Denmark guys, come to INDIA, we will show our adulthood. same thing will happen to u what u did for dolphins and whales. not by swords are any other weapons only by our Hard PUNCHES..... with our hands .. 110 crore peolple.

  13. Why don't you people go kill YOURSELVES instead of friendly dolphins--that's what we say in Tamil Nadu!

    ReplyDelete
  14. these guys should fight terrorists and work towards preservation of this planet to prove their adulthood. This kind of meaningless slaughter where the bodies are left to rot is appalling. By doing this they are only proving how chicken they are in killing a defenseless creature. Atleast in spain, the spanish guys run in front of rampaging bulls to prove their manhood where most likely humans get hurt --- here the beast has an equal chance. I am in no way advocating such violent practices. Through this the people of faroe islands are proving that they all are sissy boys and cowards. SHAME ON YOU GUYS!! No real man would do anything like this even in the name of tradition. I would advocate the people of faroe islands to enter the jungles of amazon and Borneo where you still have cannibal tribes. Try fighting them with bare hands and come out alive -- i will call you men then!! Even non vegetarians only eat the meat of animals speacially reared in a farm for food purposes, no sane guy would enjoy killing for pleasure. Imagine the impact this would have on children in this so called developed country -- where they witness such gruesome killing -- they wil have no compassion for the environment and tolerence for their surroundings. Please guys grow up !! this is not the stone age and you are not cave men (even cave men killed only for food)....

1 Question for all you danish people and people from the faroe islands --- WHO WILL YOU KILL AFTER ALL THE DOLPHINS OF THE WORLD ARE DEAD ?

will you start killing people then to prove you are men .... real men should use their brains to impress and not show that they lack it...

It is sad that the people of denmark, European Union, USA and all so called custodians of planet earth watch in silience only because this is happening in a developed land (Hypocisy i say)

Question : Why is Greenpeace not throwing its activists in front of these muderers to protect the animals?? Greenpeace only seem to be effectively working in -- if i may use the word "non white" countries (pardon me, but this was not meant to be a racist comment, i only see this actually happening)

One thing is for sure -- there is nothing civilised about danish people or people from these islands if you go about doing this. And then with what right do you dictate to other countries like Japan etc to stop whale slaughter??

I think whaling and such dolphin killing should be banned all over irrespective of the region.

  23. i think that what Karthik said up there is true, what will they kill after the dolphins, these animals are already close to extinction and a few more years of this ridiculous carry on and we wont have any more of these beautiful animals. to enter adulthood u must do this, i reckon that the irish tradition is a better idea, have a few pints and drink urself under the table, much more fun and enjoyable. i am absolulty appaled at this and i dont understand why it is not splahed all over the news, because one thing for sure is that it should be.

  24. Ugh. How can someone bring themself to kill a dolphin? Let alone almost a whole town! Surely SOME of them have realized this is one of the DUMBEST traditions EVER. How great can Denmark be if once every year they support they're town by saying "Oh yay! the time has Finally come! Let's all to kill dolphins together! man i love this town." pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  25. How could they do that! The caldron dolphin is the most happy and playful dolphin. If this is what they think they need to do to prove adulthood there wrong. Thousand and Thousands of dolphins were killed because of them and they didn't even try to harm any of denmark but denmark tried to harm them and felt proud while doing that! do they have no shame?

    ReplyDelete
  26. This is horrible!!! How can they call themselves human? Killing an animal to prove adulthood? Thats so stupid! and it should be stopped. I cant believe that. It should be illegal for them to do that! Do the people of Denmark have a heart at all! Its terrible and they really should not be able to do that. I cant believe how long this gone for. IT SHOULD BE STOPPED!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. i pity them because they all have a heart of stone...they dont know how to love what our God gave them...May our dear Lord show them how to take good care of his own creature...Lets all pray for the poor dolphins and whales...

  28. I cannot believe that this practice is allowed to carry on - am I right in thinking that is a "passage into adulthood" What the F**K - it's 2010!! Not 1010!! It's quiet simple, us humans are a virus, we cannot help but destroying everything we come across. Although, the folks from Denmark more than likely think that their tradition is fine & would not understand why we over here have issues with it. Please, please do not bring GOD into this. Anyone who believes in all that shite is as dumb as the Danes! When will the human race finally come together as one and stop all the terrible things that go on in this world in the name of one outdated belief system or another, I'll tell you when, Never! We are all driven by by some bullshit and the way it will stay forever! I am ashamed to be part a race that lets this happen...DC Ireland...

  29. umm... dont jump to conclusions people. i am danish and this is not a "festival" nor is it DENMARK "Dolphin Killing festival in Denmark" is kinda misleading, since the Faroe Islands are as much danish as Greenland is danish (perhaps even less so).
We share queen and military forces (and they get financial aid, afair). Besides that, the Faroe Islands are pretty much independant, with their own government and prime minister. They even have their own currency. so to say its denmark is stupid. its not denmark.

  30. It's unbelieveable that a whole town supports this barbaric tradition. Families look on and cheer, women with babies in strollers, small children witnessing such violence and it is all condoned in the name of tradition, oh please, a turkey at Christmas is tradition!!
I'm afraid that if I were Danish I would be so ashamed of what my 'brother's' were capable of that I would never admit to my origin.
I have to wonder what the girl's have to do to become women; is that some other dirty little secret that they keep from the world??
I will never forget seeing those awful pictures, the "Red Sea".

yes, this is an independent state (see link provided) however, the Danish parliament still makes the laws in this area, so the anger towards the Danish gov't is just as they are the ones that can ban this.
I read (under 'Sport') that the Faroe islands participate in FIFA. Perhaps large signs showing international distate of this imature spectacle at Faroe's next game would be prudent.
I also read the Killer whales also frequent the island fiords.

I am not saying that I endorse this festival but what I can say is that cultural relativism states that you can not judge one peoples customs from your own. This is because what works for one civilization may not work for another but is perfectly fine for their's. Also i would like to mention that clearly these killings haven't affected the abundance of these dolphins. They have been doing this for hundreds of years and they are not extict yet. Also the NOAA has stated that these dolphins are in no danger of extinction...no bulshit. Look it up. Also these dolphins are not wasted, they have traditionally used these dead dophins for food stocks over the long and supremely cold winters.

Scary that something like that feeds off this stuff and then probably goes out and shoots a squirrel or bird. Animals on this planet are the civilized species, mankind is far from civilzed. NO one owns the right in killing them unless they become a problem in the ecosystem...but this creatures are one of the most friendly mammals that man can go along with....

If some ALIEN came to Earth then kill the human race as part of their "Adulthood as part of ALIENATION" (sounds stupid right?) then maybe we can feel what those dolphins feel the moment they are about to die in those human hands....and still this is just part of tradition of entering adulthood....you guys will never quit these stupid things unless nothing is left in the sea.

  56. Dear Confused Dolphie.

These whales are not killed to show how the boys have become men. What they are killed for is to feed these small coastal towns. If you think that every little out of the way town in the Faroe Islands has a super market you are sorely mistaken. The only way that they have gotten through the past hundreds of years has by killing and useing every part of these whales. If you had used your brain you would have researched this topic instead of just listening to what this one person had said. I would like to reiterate logic I stated before, if these people have been doing this for years and years, these whales are in no danger of going extinct.

By what you are saying is that no one has the right to take the life of an animal unless they indanger the ecosystem. SO, i guess you think all of the steak, chicken and pork you eat is endangering some ecosystem somewhere. I bet you don't actually think about it.

On a side note, your idea about the aleins invation sounds intresting but I think you stole the idea from the film Predator.

It is like a seperate country that is KINDA owned by Denmark, but it still has it's own government and controls it's self. The actual country, Denmark, had no part of this. The people in Faroe Islands probably killed the dolphins and whales for food or something. It is just wrong. Again please do not blame it on Denmark. They had no part of it. Thank you.

  60. People need to do their research before they scream bloody murderer. As several people have mentioned the Faroe Islands are not an actual part of Denmark. They make their own laws and only in case of war or major foreign crisis do Denmark have anything influence at all.
Furthermore it is quite obvious that the article isn't written by a serious journalist - tons of pictures of dead whales and bloodred sea, but hardly any text and no information really. When the journalist doesn't do his/her research properly and does not refer to other sources besides wikipedia, his/her article can not be taken as a reliable source. They teach us that in school in Denmark.
I myself hate animal cruelty and killing just for the sake of killing - but I am quite sure this is not just killing for the sake of killing. I haven't even done my own research properly, but I expect these whales actually feed a lot of people - and the whole 'becoming a man'-thing is probably marked this way because the young men then become part of the adults - that go hunting. But what do I know ?
Do your own research before boycotting danish products - when danish people in fact take no part in these killings, that may or may not be justified.
Please do your own research before you start pointing fingers.

To the rest of you, I'm not saying I'm in favor of the dolphin/whale killings, and I think it's great that some people have decided to take action, and voice their opinions to the Danish government. However, please do your research before you blow up the inbox of some government official. If you do, your emails will be a lot more than just calling them dolphin-killiing bastards. Your emails will be taken more seriously, and have a bigger impact.

  61. Islanders in motorboats first drive the whales into a bay. The chase may be lengthy. The whales are eventually driven into the shallows. The islanders hammer 2.2 kg metal gaffs into the flesh of each whale until the hooks hold. A 15 cm knife is then used to slash through the blubber and flesh to the spinal column. Next the main blood vessels are severed.

The Faroese treat the hunt as a festive occasion. Children are often given a day off school.

According to Faroese legislation it is also permitted to hunt certain species of small cetaceans other than pilot whales. These include: Bottlenose dolphin; Atlantic white-beaked dolphin; Atlantic white-sided dolphin; and Harbour porpoise (There are also specific regulations for the hunting of harbour porpoise. Harbour porpoises are killed with shotguns).

  62. Not that im up for killing dolphins and whales its just that as americans are just as worse as they are.We eat cows, chickens, pig and other seafood. Some people in India eat dogs and cats because people who practice Hindu wont eat cows. We think its perfectly normal to eat cows, Indians think its normal to eat dogs, and for the people in the Faroe Islands think its normal to eat dolphins. Its just our different cultures. Its ok if the animals are not going extinct.

  63. Why do all people seem to think its wrong to kill the "friendly, intelligent" animals in the world? Would you be so offended if they were doing this to sharks (which they do around the world anyway - know one seems to care about that on this page). You shouldnt judge this situation by how pretty or smart these animals are. The fact is that these animals were brutally murdered and worst of all, SLOWLY!! Yes many countries eat meat ect ect but most civilized countries have ethics in place to ensure the method of killing is as quick and painfree as possible. The difference that makes dolphin and whale killing so much worse is that they are huge animals that take a lot to kill. Therefore at this point in time the only way to kill them is by brutal slaughter until they bleed out. Whale hunters shoot harpoons with explosives on the end so that when they hit the whale, an explosion detonates inside the whale (is this f-ed up or wat!!)Also the numbers of many of their species are at risk. Rather than pick on the countries who consider it their traditional right to continue these barbaric practices I think they really need to look at educating the population people as they can not see what they are doing as wrong - in their eyes they are just doing what their families have brought them up to do. And by us attacking their beliefs, there are only going to get defensive and continue doing it to make the point that we cant stop them. BTW u should all watch the documentary the cove!! Its about japan dolphin killing. It is a very biased movie but is quite disturbing. Just to clarify I am utterly disgusted when it comes to practice like this and honestly cant understand why they don't see it as cruel, I just would like people to try search for more research into both sides of the story and realize that getting pissed off is not going to lead to a tactical solution.

I am from Denmark and like the people who wote this before me FAROE ISLANDS IS NOT A PART OF DENMARK!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im sick and tired of people blaming it on Denmark. So just shut up and screw Faroe Islands (NOT DENMARK).

    ReplyDelete
  67. I dont know why anyone would rationalize the killing of innocent creatures by saying " these are not dolphins people! these are pilot whales. not endangered. not highly intelligent" The pilot whales are probably alot more intelligent then the idiot who wrote this - comment !

    ReplyDelete
  68. You guys are fucking idiots..

First, people have said it before and i'm saying it again. Faroe Islands is not a goddamn part of Denmark.

Second, This have been said before and i'm also going to say it again. The Faroe Islands has been doing this every year in HUNDREDS of years, and the dolphins and whales aren't extinctn yet. This whale hunt is a tradition that is a part of their culture, and actually it is a big part of the Faroe Islands economic system.

Yes it might be cruel, but on the other hand, i think these animals had a way better life than that cow from which your steak is comming from.

So please people, do your goddamn research before yelling murder and man slaughter!

  69. You're an asshole. Are you even human? How could you possibly justify the images of our own fellow (not so "Human") beings violently killing helpless beautiful animals that have just as much right to be on this planet as we do.
It is totally VILE and disgusting. People of Denmark should be embarassed. If I could I would take one of them and cut thier penis off and watch them bleed slowly into the water.
Denmark penis festival!!! Let's cut ALL their DICKS and BALLS OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FACT: Denmark provides economic aid to Faroe Is: approx 1/2 their total expenses; cut that & Faroe is broke. So Denmark could stop this.
FACT: Faroe Health Dept has warned that toxic mercury levels in those pilot whales (dolphins) are severely damaging children and adults. Which is probably why many of the whales are not eaten.
FACT: The "dolphins" are common; Faroe Islanders are endangered because most young people leave and don't return (can't blame them)plus Islander inbreeding and sterility (from eating dolphins)is increasing.
Write/email/phone as suggested in other comments (Feb 6, Mar 2), urge boycott of Danish products and Denmark & Faroe Is tourism.

hopefully the next ice age, meteor strike, flood, polar shift, nuclear conflict or whatever disaster it may be, will hit soon, rid the earth of humans and allow the planet to replenish once again. and preferably with a better race.

I HOPE THEY ARE TORTURED BY NIGHTMARES OF WHAT THEY HAVE DONE UNTIL THE LAST DAY OF THEIR WORTHLESS LIVES. I WOULD LOVE TO DO TO THESE MOTHER FUCKERS WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO GOD'S CREATURES. IN MY OPINION, GOD SHOULD HAVE LET ONLY ANIMALS LIVE ON THIS EARTH. BECAUSE THIS IS SERIOUSLY FUCKED UP.

How can you accept providing support to these islands?

We are from an EU country, The Netherlands. You danish should be banned from the EU !!!

  77. How humane is it when one human condemns another, suggesting they should suffer the same death they put on an animal? When people assessing the value of humans as less than the value of animals, then they themselves are "barbaric". Don't you all see the irony in this?

IF YOU CAN RESPECT ANIMALS, RESPECT HUMANS TOO!!!!

Also, I guess we should all become vegetarian then. Hypocrites! These whales get eaten. If the blood from a North American slaughterhouse was put into a river it would be more red than this. My point? People get all sappy about the death of animals, but keep eating meat.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Please, lets not jump to conclusions. (Yes the pictures are graphic but maybe we can look at the other side of the story)

    1. These are pilot whales (technically a member of the dolphin family) and not as endangered as the email leads us to believe.

    2. This is a food fishery for the Natives (First Nations) of the Faroe Islands, very similar to our First Nations food fishery with salmon and farther north with our Inuit hunting seals and sea lions for food. A noticeable difference is the Natives of the Faroe Islands are white, none the less they need to eat.

    3. In 1986 the International Whaling Commission banned commercial whaling, but because of the two above points the IWC is OK with this hunt. This annual harvest accounts for approx. 25% of the meat consumed on the Islands every year.(They also eat the blubber)

    4. Yes the people in doing the killing are in their teens and twenties, but when dealing with this amount of meat the days will be long and tiring. The elders will be supervising and helping out with less physical jobs to ensure that as little meat gets spoiled as possible.

    5. The Faroe Islands aren't exactly Denmark, but for the purpose of this email being circulated, the world knows Denmark and thinks of a country in Europe not a small group of islands in the North Atlantic. (Almost at the same Latitude as Iceland). They share the same Queen, military forces and Denmark gives the Faroe Islands financial aid. Besides that, they are basically independent. They have their own Prime Minister, Government and their own currency.

  79. just seein this gave me a pain in my chest.. if i am human, n feel like this , than wat do they call themselves? i refuse to be called the same with them, shame on Denmark for not doin anythng n lettin this happen...

  81. This wouldn't be such a big deal if these animals weren't brutally murdered perhaps the people from Faroe Island should find a less cruel way of killing these animals. This is also hard to accept because of how friendly these animals are towards humans. It just seems wrong to kill them. Ok fine it is a food source for the people of Faroe Island but last time I check we don't through festivals for the death of a cow, chicken, fish, etc. I'm not trying to say that I'm better then them because I do eat meat, but I know that the meat that I eat was not brutally murdered. So I'm just say to everyone how does eat meat - quite through rocks at glass houses... and to the people of Faroe Island quite trying to justify this type of cruelty and find a better way of killing these animals if they are such a BIG source of food for all of you.

  82. I spent ages writting something just now and then deleted it by mistake!...just to say that I have read all the comments on this huge blog and am heartened by depth of feeling ftom many people. It is good to remember the important point...that to effect any change we need to act intelligently and effectively...also with understanding. It is a complex issue. A small population many miles from anywhere depending on 25% of their protein on this 'harvest'. They may be slightly influenced by Denmark but they are a seperate country.
So the messages to send must be sent to the appropriate people and bodies.
I believe that many areas would use sheep for food in a similar setting but perhaps the ground is too poor. I know I would rather emmigrate than eat in tis way, and the other factor to bear in mind is that the dolhins may cause ill health to the eater. If so this may be an important point in the battle to outlaw this aweful procedure.
The last point I wanted to throw into this melting pot is this...Such a DILEMMA as this is like a Microcosm of our whole CHALLANGE of how we live in this world in the next 50 years. To look at the whole picture, to feel in to it, to see all sides, to act intelligently, with focus and go straight in there to the nub of it...no hypocracy. For instance do you put your holiday by plane before the fate of the glacier you fly over? or do you eat meat from a MURDERED animal...(because most animals dont die willingly for you). I pray that we may efect change for the better in this and in other important areas this year. Help by sending your email off to the relevant places as soon as you (or I!!) can.

    ReplyDelete
  83. This must be looked at from all sides and angles. This appears barbaric, and it is easy to vilify the people perpetrating this act, but unless any of us is actually from this place we don't really know what it going on. Yes, it's awful how they slaughter the animals. Yes I hate it, and it makes me sick and angry. What if the Feroe islands are very poor and they need the meat? Maybe instead of wanting to cut off their balls and do any manner of evil to the local people (which by the way is the kind of sentiment that causes most of the worlds problems, de-humanizing other people. Which too in a way is what the villagers are doing to the dolphins) we should look at how to make the locals less dependent on the dolphins as a food source. I highly doubt that they do this for fun. And yeah to me it's horrible, but show me a culture that doesn't celebrate their harvest. Take a deep breath people.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Okay, I have alot to say. First:PEOPLE GET IT RIGHT!!! DENMARK HAS NOTHIGN TO DO WITH THIS I AM NOT EVEN DANISH AND YOU ANNOY ME IF YOU KEEP SAYING THIS!!! PAY ATTENTION FOR GOD'S SAKE! And also, as of 2008, it has ben declared that this whale/dolphin WHATEVER it is, it's meat is harmful to eat, asit contains too much mercury, environmental poisons, DDT and PCBs. Also, DO RESEARCH BEFORE YOU COMMENT! I am from the United States, and am not proud of it. I realize what torture the poor animals go through in our slaughterhouses, and I disapprove of it greatly. Yet, Feroe Islands still shouldn't slay these creatures in cold blood, and this is more than an annual festival. These are fished year round and killed too. I also realize there are no supermarkets or anything in these islands, but, like I said, it is now declared that you shouldn't eat them for health reasons. Yet they are still killed, even if you can't chow down on them. What also disappoints me is how we humans act now, slaying our meat in torture and cold blood! I know that eating dogs, or cows, or WHATEVER may seem cruel to you, but it's how they get by. It's part of their culture, and in their view it's ok to do that. What also confuses me is the celebration part. Are they celebrating it like a harvest, thanking for it's life given up, or just a selfish celebration? I want to find out! Anyways, bottom line: THIS IS NOT OKAY, NOR IS ANY ANIMAL CRUELTY! BEFORE POININTG FINGERS, TRY AND AKE SURE YOUR HANDS ARE CLEAN! Thank you and have a nice day.

  106. I think that if you want to change this traditions, please, take the charge of the Faroe Island and bann the hunting festival of those whales; but before that you'll have to change hundreds of years of culture taught in those islands. I think that for them these acts seem very normal and it's a way to make provision of food for the hard winters in that region. If you want to judge the people of Faroe Islands doing this in a region which rightfully belongs to them try judging the preistoric man for hunting down Mammuts or other big and beautiful animals. I don't say it isn't a very cruel think to do, but our EDUCATION teaches us to see these acts as being cruel, and in the opposite way the inhabitans of the feroe islands are, maybe, taught that those whales are their own sea "cows"

    ReplyDelete
  107. Everyone take a deep breath and calm down.

One) Yes, it's sad and disturbing to see those dolphins killed, because they are so friendly. And it's obvious that a lot of you have bleeding hearts when it comes to animals. And that's fine, that's how you feel. If you're a vegeatarian, that's fine too. So you don't like eating nice animals? That's your choice. But not everyone is a vegetarian like you, and not everybody for the rest of time will be vegetarians either. So get over it. Sorry.

Two) If you're not from the Faroe Islands, I honestly don't see how people from other countries have a say. No offense. It's hard for me to say that, because there are cultures I disagree with. But I have to accept the fact that not every culture is like my own. To them it's normal. So instead of getting pissed of and foaming at the mouth, try to be understanding.

Three) Person who said they're from the U.S. and are ashamed of it:

Don't like it? Leave. Really. This is one of the very few things that drive me up the wall. If you don't like it, either get over it or leave. There are so many people who say, "America is too republican" "America is too liberal" America is a frickin' free country! Which means people are going to say what's on their minds. And some people are going to disagree with you and some won't. You can accept it or leave. Seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Be on your guard and see how people say upon this matter. We just sit in front of the computer and like to be their judge without searching for the truth on why they doing the killing? While we live at the aboundant should we not care about people live at the scarcity? Love your God and your "Neighbor"!

  109. Dave, listen. The focus is not to stop the religion its to stop the ritual, and "the west" is not against the Muslims, we're against the extremist, just like those christian extremists who wanted to burn copies of the Kuran, we stopped them from doing so because it was a disrespectful act towards the Muslim people. In our nations we believe in freedom of religion, we respect you for what you believe, those who dont are not following the principles of our nations. So dont stereotype by saying "the whole west", we do not have any issues in what you believe, it is those particular groups who begin to take lives that we have issues with. We welcome Muslims, we welcome jews, we welcome Taoist, christians, Buddhist, etc, As long as there is no violence towards others. Saying "the west as a whole...This barbaric festival will never be stopped, because its ok in the West" is being stereotypical, we need to stop stereotyping. You know what word we all need to learn?... Humanitarianism, in other words, PEACE, no matter what the religion.

i'm sorry for all the angry posts; everyone pointing fingers at eachother, ranting their emotions and such....

but i think its great that this kind of information/ confirmation is out here for everyone to see. because after all the ranting and raving, we each individually have to decide what we're going to do with the 'truth'/ infomation.

sometimes truth hurts, sometimes pain gives us a deeper understanding, sometimes insight transforms the individual.
    thanks.

  113. It is impossible to understand from the Internet sources if it is really a festival/tradition, or just the only way they know to survive.

If it is a old tradition just imagine, for example, if Greece still had their Sparta tradition (even if it is a myth) to throw the weak newborns from the top of the rocks by nowadays.
And it could become the oldest tradition in the world - for more than two thousand years. I think it is not even necessary to comment what I want to say by giving this example.
We are the people who live in present and have our own minds, not the minds of middle age people, and it is possible for us to rethink old traditions, the traditions that have nothing more to say about them that they are just very old.

If local people say that it is just their way to survive, by killing dolphins/whales eating their meat, I will not believe in this, because in Russia we have even more poor regions and our local people don't come into such cruel methods. If they really will have not enough food after stopping this, it is not a problem to organise World Humanitarian Aid for people of Faroe Islands and send additional food.

As for me, I stopped eating any meat/fish after pictures I had seen.

    Dmitry, Russia

  126. All who abuse nature’s gifts will reap only sorrow and pain in life after death. Beautiful creatures are not meant for the entertainment of men. They are beings of intelligence and emotion and they feel pain just as man does. They are here to enhance the beauty that earth has to offer man, not to be harmed by man, and man is responsible for the protection of these creatures. Those who misinterpret the almighty’s reasons for creation, heed these words as this message is meant for you and comes from a very important place.

"There is life after death for all. There is purpose for your life now. You shall be kind, gentle, loving and compassionate. You shall live up to the morals the almighty meant for man and follow the leadership of his sacrificed son. You shall learn important lessons, become wiser and teach others. You shall appreciate the beauty of all earthly beings, be respectful of them and cherish opportunities of interaction. There are consequences for actions that oppose this message. In life after death these consequences will be clear. For every moment of suffering caused by your hands you will experience 100. For every drop of blood shed you will shed 100. You will live in the dark, be burdened with sorrow and spend eternity repenting for pain you have caused. Repent now, change now, live rightly now and you will rejoice with those that are worthy. Live this message as you live by your heartbeat. Those that continue the path of destruction will be forever damned. Believe, this is man’s final warning."
